Description
Nursing
Nursing is a profession in which one takes on the responsibility of providing ongoing care to the dying, injured, disabled, and sick. In both medical and community settings, it is also the responsibility of nurses to promote health among individuals, families, and communities. Nurses are involved in patient advocacy, management, health care research, and policymaking. Individuals, families, and communities receive primary health care and specialty services independently from nurses with postbaccalaureate preparation.
Professional nurses collaborate with physicians and other health care professionals, as well as independently. Professional nurses oversee the work of nurses with limited licenses, such as enrolled nurses (ENs) in Australia and licensed practical nurses (LPNs) in the United States. In a variety of settings, professional nurses also supervise the work of nursing assistants.
