Description
The study and practice of diagnosing, treating, and preventing mental disorders is known as psychiatry.
The Greek words psyche, which means "mind" or "soul," and iatreia, which means "healing," are the source of the term psychiatry. Mental illness was initially viewed as a form of demonic possession up until the 18th century, but it gradually evolved into a disease that required treatment. Many people believe that the efforts of the French physician Philippe Pinel in the late 1700s are what gave rise to modern psychiatry.
