It's a book about the life of her mother and grandmother in Shanghai and Peking between the 1920s and 1950s'. The book reveals the personal journey of the author's mother and grandmother under the regimes of both the Nationalist government and the Communist government. It portrays how the power change and the Thought Reform right after 1949 impacted the course and fate of their lives.
