About the Author

Corinne Thompson was a four-year letter-winner in volleyball (1983-1987) at George Washington University and a three-year starting setter. During her senior year she was co-captain of her squad, Atlantic 10 "Player of the Week," selected to both the A-10 all-conference and all-tournament second team and the NCAA All-Northeast Region team. Her jumping ability helped her to become the only right-side blocker in GW's history to hold an individual career record for solo blocks in the top 10. In 1999 she was inducted into GW's Athletic Hall of Fame. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and raised in Chappaqua, N.Y., she excelled in volleyball, basketball, softball and track at Horace Greeley High School. Thompson narrowed her athletic focus to volleyball at GW. In addition to her individual skills, she was an excellent team player, helping her teammates achieve a four-year record of 107-46 (.700). She is one of only three GW volleyball players to make the NCAA All-Northeast Region team. Thompson has run in five marathons and continued playing competitive volleyball after graduating from GW. She participated in the Open, AA and A Divisions of the Chesapeake Region (USA Volleyball), earning all-tournament honors in '95 and '96. She played her final tournament in April, 2011 so she could focus on coaching her daughter, Julia. Thompson lives in Warrenton, Virginia with her husband, four children, three dogs and a parakeet and is a licensed massage therapist and certified personal trainer. She works as the Registrar at the local high school and coaches both high school JV and U12 travel teams.
